10 of the Most Poisonous Flowers in the World

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

The beauty and sheer diversity of flowers is nothing short of remarkable. Different varieties are appreciated for their splendour, made into medicines and even the odd tasty salad. However, before you start foraging in your garden for lunch a quick word of caution – although they might look harmless many flowers can make you seriously ill, and in some instances can kill.

These are some of the flowers you probably shouldn’t give your mum for her birthday. Now, if only you could find some gift ideas for the mother-in-law…

Surprised to see this here? The bright yellow Buttercup is a common sight in fields and gardens throughout summer, being particularly popular with children.

That’s probably because most kids don’t know they are poisonous; causing blistering of the mouth and intestinal tract when ingested. Handling the plants can also cause dermatitis of the skin. (more…)

The Language Of Flowers & Beanstalk Cards

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

When it comes to expressing emotions the French are one of the most vociferous – gentile and aggressive!  They are widely acknowledged as the romantics of Europe, so it is probably no surprise that the Language of Flowers is supposed to have started in France in the early 1800s.  The idea was that bunches and arrangements conveyed secret messages between forbidden lovers.

Since its early years many have commented on the use of the Language of Flowers and indeed, the meanings of individual flowers – so goodness knows what sort mixed messages have been relayed as history has elapsed!  Even today there is no definitive list of meanings and there are even instances were modern times have changed historic meanings.  Traditionally, daffodils had a meaning “ You’re the only one” today it is more commonly associated (more…)

Silver Pearlised Transporter Box

Silver Pearlised Transporter Box

Question: When is a cardboard box not a box?

Answer: When it’s a Living Vase.

Or to give it it’s other popular names, when it’s a Transporter Box, Castle Vase or Aqua Box.

The Transporter box is a key element of the florist’s attractive packaging options  and today sees the range extended with the launch of a ‘Pearlised’ finish.  Historically, the box has come in a Matt finish in over a dozen different colours and now you have even more options by selecting a new finish.

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

You may think we are getting things out of perspective, but bear with us: we think you should pay attention to Corsages, Buttonholes and   Wristlets!

Every bride is looking for the perfect wedding, the enjoyment on the day is one aspect, capturing the day forever is another.  Long after the day has passed, family and friends will continue to discuss and reminisce, leafing through the photographs, DVDs, even the old videos. They will coo over how beautiful the bride and her bridesmaids looked, they will smile at the “risky” best mans speech and adore or curse the weather!  On the odd occasion the ladies will appreciate the beauty and artistry of the cake and the flowers.

So what’s our point? Flowers may not be the first memory of the day if you get them right – they will be, if you get them wrong!  This is why we think brides should keep focused until the buttonholes , wristlets and corsages have been finalised! (more…)

Whilst you use it daily, do you understand the science to get the best out of your foam?  Well let’s try and fill in a few gaps:- (more…)
