When it comes to expressing emotions the French are one of the most vociferous – gentile and aggressive! They are widely acknowledged as the romantics of Europe, so it is probably no surprise that the Language of Flowers is supposed to have started in France in the early 1800s. The idea was that bunches and arrangements conveyed secret messages between forbidden lovers.
Since its early years many have commented on the use of the Language of Flowers and indeed, the meanings of individual flowers – so goodness knows what sort mixed messages have been relayed as history has elapsed! Even today there is no definitive list of meanings and there are even instances were modern times have changed historic meanings. Traditionally, daffodils had a meaning “ You’re the only one” today it is more commonly associated with hope and as a result of its use by charities like Cancer Research.
So instead of adding fuel to the fire the Beanstalk Co thought it would use an alternate ‘Language of Flowers’ , simply using colour, in its range of card designs. Our Language of Flowers is summarised a little easier
RED - Love, Respect, Passion, Courage.
PINK - Perfect happiness, Gentility, Grace, Thankfulness, Confidence, Admiration.
YELLOW – Friendship, Joy, Happiness, Zeal, Jealousy.
WHITE – Innocence, Purity, Secrecy, Heavenly, Silence.
PEACH OR CORAL – Enthusiasm, Desire, Sweetness, Modesty, Joy.
PURPLE – Faithfulness, Passion, Hope.
These summaries have been used in the new Expression card design which combine innovative design, unique flower photography and the Language of Flowers to help inspire your customers message. The range is well worth a look.
