5 Things you won’t find in the sales

To you at $200,000

To you at $200,000

So we have had the Christmas and new year party excesses and we are into 2010 – its time for the sales!!  But don’t get your hopes up to high of snapping up a bargain if you have dreams of bagging one of the following ‘luxury’ items.

1. An Orchid

But not just any Orchid, the most expensive Orchid in the world!  In  2005 this Orchid was sold at auction for $200,000. The newly developed flower was grown by scientists in China, after eight years of research.

So whatever you do, if you manage to get hold of the plant, don’t put it in a cheap pot.

2. Cooking Ingredients

How can cooking ingredients be expensive you might ask – well the spice Saffron is the most expensive ingredient in the world.  Used in cooking for its bright yellow colouring and flavour, Saffron is in fact the stigma of the Saffron Crocus. Each crocus grows three stigma, these are collected and then dried for the catering industry.
However 50,000 flowers have to be grown to produce one pound in dry weight of Saffron, this equates to the area of a football pitch. Prices for a pound of Saffron vary from $1,000 to $5,000.

3. Perfume

The perfume called ‘Clive Christan No.1’ has been available since Queen Victoria’s reign- in fact she gave her royal consent for the image of her crown to be used on front of the bottle.

This perfume is also acknowledged in the Guinness Book Of Records for its cost at $2300 per ounce – use it sparingly!  And if you fancy mixing something yourself, apparently it uses the fragrances of jasmine, rose and orris.

4.   A handbag

The inclusion of a handbag in our list is probably no surprise.
